台南市南區的大恩社區recently received the purple ribbon community certification from Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare, marking their excellence in domestic violence prevention. The award ceremony took place during a city council meeting, where the honor was accepted by the community's representative, Mr. Shih Kuo-hsi.

In response to this achievement, Mayor Huang Wei-cher expressed his pride in the community's efforts and encouraged all citizens to participate in the fight against domestic violence. He emphasized the importance of reporting incidents and working together to achieve a zero tolerance policy on violence.

The purple ribbon is an international symbol representing anti-violence and peace initiatives. It aims to raise awareness about various forms of abuse, including family violence, sexual assault, harassment, child abuse, and elder abuse. The purple ribbon community program, initiated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, encourages local communities to invest in prevention efforts and integrate anti-violence values into daily life.

Since 1998, when the Family Violence Prevention Act was passed on June 24th, National Family Violence Prevention Month has been observed every year during June. Various government agencies and non-profit organizations collaborate to organize purple ribbon campaigns, promoting awareness and education about preventing violence in families.
